wo Ways To Live

The strength of Two Ways to Live as a gospel outline is that it explains the gospel of Jesus Christ in the context of the overarching story of the Bible, giving the non-Christian hearer or reader all the presuppositions and assumptions they need to grasp the real significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection. In other words, whilst it is a brief and logical presentation, it provides all the foundations a non-Christian needs to know in order to become a Christian.

Everyone must decide how to respond.

1. God, The Good Ruler and Creator

2. Our Rebellion Against God

3. God's Justice

4. God Sent Jesus To Die For Us

5. Jesus, The Risen Ruler and Saviour

6. Two Ways To Live

  • God is the ruler of the world.
  • He made the world.
  • He made us to rule his good world, giving thanks and honour to him.

You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being. (Revelation 4:11)

This is how God created things to be.  But it's fairly obvious that this is not our experience of the world now.  What happened?

  • We all reject God as our ruler by running our own lives our own way.
  • By rebelling against God's way, we damage ourselves, each other, and the world.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way... (Isaiah 53:6a)

The question is: what will God do about our rebellion against him?

  • God won't let us rebel against him forever.
  • God's punishment for rebellion is death and judgement.

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement...
(Hebrews 9:27)

This is hard to hear.  It means that we are all in deep trouble.  But it's not the end of the story.

  • Because of his love, God sent his Son into the world: the man Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus always lived under God's rule.
  • But Jesus took our punishment by dying in our place.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
(Isaiah 53:6)

But that's not all.

  • God raised Jesus to life again as the ruler and judge of the world.
  • Jesus has conquered death, now brings forgiveness and new life, and will return in glory.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead... (1 Peter 1:3)

Well, where does that leave us?  It leaves us with a clear choice between two ways to live.

There are only two ways to live.

Our way                  God's new way
- Reject God          - Submit to Jesus
   as ruler                    as our ruler
- Live our                - Rely on Jesus'
 own way                  death and resurrection
- Damaged by       - Forgiven by God
   our rebellion
-Facing death        - Receive a new life that
 and judgement        lasts forever

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them.
(John 3:36)

So, which way do you want to live?
