Book Club

We will give you a FREE copy of our short book-of-the-month.

This month the book is The Freedom Of Self-Forgetfulness by Timothy Keller

‘The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness

‘What are the marks of a supernaturally changed heart?’

This is one of the questions the Apostle Paul addresses as he writes to the church in Corinth. He’s not after some superficial outward tinkering, but instead a deep–rooted, life–altering change that takes place on the inside. In an age where pleasing people, puffing up your ego and building your résumé are seen as the methods to ‘make it’, the Apostle Paul calls us to find true rest in blessed self–forgetfulness.

Here are some typical questions we might discuss together:

  1. Did you decide right away if you liked or disliked the book, or did your opinion change as you read?
  2. What’s one thing you found interesting/learned from the book?
  3. How would you describe this book in just one sentence?
  4. If you hadn't been reading it for a group, would you have finished it?
  5. What did you most strongly agree or disagree with?
  6. Did this book challenge any preconceived notions you had about the topic? Was the author's research credible?
  7. Share a favourite quote/fact from the book. Why did this quote/fact stand out?
  8. How might we now apply this to what we care about?
  9. What feelings did this book evoke for you?
  10. What question(s) do you still have?
  11. If you got the chance to ask the author/s of this book one question, what would it be?
  12. Rate the book on a scale of 1 to 10 and discuss whether the book club conversation changes your initial rating.

We're planning to meet with others to chat about it on Sunday 19th July 9am-10am in the church.  Please book a spot on Eventbrite if you wish to come along.
